RTU Researchers Take Part in Establishment of High-Performance Computing Competence Center in Latvia

Riga Technical University’s HPC Center  jointly with the Institute of Numerical Modelling of the University of Latvia strated to implement an ambitious EU project aimed at establishment of an international network of high-performance computing competence centers. One of the centers will be located in Latvia.

The task of the competence centers to be established within the project “National Competence Centers in the Framework of EuroHPC (EUROCC)” is to provide a unified support structure for promotion of HPC application in higher education, research, public administration and industry. The competence centers will summarize all knowledge, experience and computing resources available in the EU countries.

The project started on 1 September 2020. 33 countries will cooperate within the project in the two years of project period. The total EuroCC project funding exceeds 56 million Euro.

The associated project CASTIEL was started at the same time with EuroCC project, which is aimed to coordinate cooperation between the national competence centers involved in EuroCC project. CASTIEL will provide information exchange, training and internship opportunities, as well as will promote business development and cooperation with the industry.

The projects EuroCC and CASTIEL will focus on establishment of a high class HPC ecosystem in Europe. These projects are funded by the European Commission and its joint undertaking EuroHPC, the Latvian Ministry of Education and Science is a partner thereto. Both projects are coordinated by the HPC Center (HLRS) of the University of Stuttgart. From the video interview Bastian Koller  from HLRS gave to  PrimeurMagazin you can learn more about EURO HPC projects, including EUROCC and CASTIEL.
