HPC service price list

  • Prices for RTU structural units (in-house prices)

  • Prices for users outside the RTU

  • Financial support mechanisms for users from RTU

Prices for RTU structural units (in-house prices)

  • In-house prices for using HPC apply to study needs (Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral levels), for research at RTU, as well as to the scientific projects financed by the EU and supported by the Vice-rector for Research. The in-house price does not apply to jobs performed within contract relations with the industry.
  •  Affiliation of one’s organisation to RTU shall be indicated whenever the scientific results gained by using HPC are published. Information on how to refer to the RTU HPC Center is available here.
  •  If payment is made from one’s personal means (instead of an in-house transfer), VAT in the amount of 21 % is applied in addition.

SERVICE

PRICE PER UNIT CALCULATION EXAMPLE

COMPUTING ON CPU

0.008

EUR/core-hour

(using one CPU core for an hour)

Free trial period for new users

Total cost calculation for a job:

number of cores used × total execution time × price

Examples.

1. RTU structural unit executing a job on 24 CPU cores for 24 hours:

24 × 24 × 0.008 = 4.60 EUR

2. RTU structural unit using a virtual machine with 12 CPU cores and 64 GB RAM for 1 week:

12 × 24 x 7 × 0.008 = 16.13 EUR

COMPUTING ON GPU

0.07

EUR/GPU-hour
(using GPU for an hour)

Free trial period for new users

Total cost calculation (including CPU time):

(number of GPU used × total execution time × price per GPU-hour) + (number of CPU cores used × total execution time × price per core-hour)

Examples.

1. RTU structural unit using 2 GPUs and 4 CPU cores for 12 hours:

(2 × 12 × 0.07) + (4 × 12 × 0.008) = 1.68 + 0.38 = 2.06 EUR

DEVELOPMENT OF HPC SOFTWARE

20 EUR/h Total cost calculation:

working hours × hourly rate

FLUID AND GASS FLOW MODELLING AND SIMULATION (CFD)

EUR/h Total cost calculation:

working hours × hourly rate

To find out the price of the service you are interested in, please write to hpc@rtu.lv.

Prices for users outside the RTU

For external users (scientific institutes, industry, etc.), please contact hpc@rtu.lv to find out the prices of the services.

Financial support mechanisms for users from RTU

  • RTU PhD students can apply for funding (500 EUR per year) of the RTU Science Support Fund (ZAF). It may be used to pay for the HPC services. ZAF co-finances the use of scientific equipment at 80%.

To apply for the support, please fill in the form. The signed form should be e-mailed to doktorantura@rtu.lv, and the original should be submitted to Office 218, Kaļķu iela 1, (telephone +371 67089051).

  • Support for research at RTU*, the results of which are published in an international scientific journal indexed in the SCOPUS and/or WOS database. Funding of 100% for research requiring the facility’s research infrastructure resources 1 000 – 3 000 EURO.

To apply for this support, an application must be handed-in to the Pro-rector of Science, indicating the research equipment to be carried out, the RTU equipment to be used for the study and the estimated cost of it, as well as the project under which the study is carried out (if applicable) and the international scientific journals where the results of the study are to be published.

*Support is provided if, within 18 months of the award of funding, the results of the study are submitted for publication in an international scientific journal (no full-text conference material is accepted) and Acknowledgements section contains reference about ZAF support and the HPC infrastructure of the RTU used.

Information on how to refer to the RTU HPC Center resources is available here.

Details of the conditions for receiving ZAF aid and the procedures for granting the aid are available here.
