SolidWorks

SolidWorks is a complete 3D CAD design software providing tools for engineering design, verification, simulation and product data management, as well as technical communication that are all necessary in product development process.

License term: perpetual.

Updates: until 31.01.2019. (for research), 31.10.2019. (for training).

User groups: employees, students, and classrooms.

SolidWorks Education Edition license allows RTU students to install SolidWorks on the personal computer and to take SolidWorks certification examination.

Licenses

For research. SolidWorks University Research license is available. To register, fill in the . This license may only be obtained by RTU employees and doctoral students carrying out research work. After registration users will be given instructions regarding file downloading and installation.

For students. Students may install SolidWorks Premium on their personal computers. Installation guide is available here with authorisation through ORTUS. Instruction includes all keys and details for software downloading.

Next software version will be available in academic year 2017/2018.

The faculty may download instructions to be handed out to students.

For studies. SolidWorks Education Edition Network license is available, which may be used for student training at classrooms and for preparing study materials.

After registration users will be given instructions regarding file downloading and installation. When a classroom is registered, the application form shall contain information on the classroom address and No., number of computers, and gateway IP address or IP address range.

Certification

RTU license offers the following examinations: CSWA, CSDA, CSWA-FEA, CSWPA-Drawing Tools, and CSWP.

To carry out certification (to receive coupons), faculty must register . Students are encouraged to request examination coupons to faculty.

Computer requirements

Hardware and OS. SolidWorks versions available at RTU can only be run on MS Windows 7 and later. More information is available on the SolidWorks website.

Network connection. Research and classroom license is stored on the central server of RTU data centre, thus computer must be connected to RTU network (Floating Network license) during software installation and use.

For using outside RTU, like at home, Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection to RTU network is necessary (more information is available here).

Solidworks student edition is a completely stand-alone software, and it does not require connection to the RTU computer network.
