ArcGIS

ArcGIS Desktop is the most popular GIS and digital mapping software providing data visualisation, analysis and integration, as well as data input and editing. ArcGIS Desktop allows creating, correcting, searching, mapping, analysing and publishing of geographical information.

RTU structural units (Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics, and Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology) may use ArcGIS Desktop and its modules free of charge. Other structural units may use the ArcGIS cloud service ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Pro. The software is available for non-commercial research and study purposes.

ArcGIS Online is an online GIS cloud service used for creating and sharing maps, scenes, apps, layers, and data.

License term: perpetual.

Webhelp: until 28.02.2019.

To register for the license, fill in the application form.

For research.

ArcGIS Desktop Teaching & Research Lab Kit Education license is available, which may be obtained by RTU employees and doctoral students.

After registration users will be given instructions regarding file downloading and installation.

For studies.

ArcGIS Desktop Teaching Lab Pack Education license is available, which may be used for student training at classrooms and for preparing study materials.

After registration users will be given instructions regarding file downloading and installation. When a classroom is registered, the application form shall contain information on the classroom address and No., number of computers, and gateway IP address or IP address range.

For students.

Only RTU employees and doctoral students may install ArcGIS on their personal computers. Students who need ArcGIS for study purposes may access the ArcGIS Online service.

Computer requirements

Hardware and OS. Information on the developer’s website: ESRI

Network connection. ArcGIS Desktop license is stored on the central server of RTU data centre, thus computer must be connected to RTU network (Concurrent Use license) during software installation and use.

For using outside RTU, VPN (Virtual Private Network) connection to RTU network is necessary (more information is available here).

To be able to use ArcGIS Pro, Internet connection is necessary to connect to ESRI website. No connection to RTU computer network is necessary. Distance working is possible.
